The secret to this skull's dramatic look is cutting the eye sockets at a slight inward angle so candlelight pools inside the cavities. Take your time on the teeth — they're the detail most people notice first.
This skull design is one of my most-requested stencils. The trick is cutting the eye sockets at a slight inward angle so light pools dramatically inside the cavities.
Tips
- Use a linoleum cutter for the fine detail around the teeth
- Scoop the pumpkin wall to about 1 inch thick before carving
- Rub petroleum jelly on all cut edges to slow drying
