This is a test of both skill and patience. Each scale is individually etched to a controlled shallow depth — deep enough to glow brilliantly but never fully cut through. Work in small 4-inch sections and constantly check depth with a flashlight from inside the pumpkin.
This design requires patience and a steady hand. Each scale is individually etched to a shallow depth so the shell glows without fully cutting through.
Tips
- Use a Dremel at low speed for the etching
- Work in small sections — no more than 4 inches at a time
- Keep a damp cloth nearby to clear debris and check your depth
- Best viewed with an LED puck light inside for even illumination
